"Asked by NATO partners": Poland is transferring a special forces detachment to Kabul
The Polish Ministry of Defense, which recently reported on the withdrawal of its contingent from Afghanistan, today confirms the information about the decision to send troops to this country. According to the head of the ministry, Mariusz Blaszak, about 100 Polish soldiers will be redeployed to Kabul.
From the statement:
The department noted that the decision was made on the basis of the decree of President Andrzej Duda, signed on August 18. The Polish president stressed "the need for a safe evacuation." To this end, the Polish military will cooperate with colleagues from the United States, Britain and Turkey, who are at the Kabul airport.
As part of the Polish military contingent, which is being transferred to the Afghan capital, there will be military doctors, pilots, but mostly they are soldiers of the GROM special forces.
Mariusz Blaszczak:
Attention is drawn to the fact that the timing of the new military presence in Afghanistan, the Polish Ministry of Defense indicated in the release. It says that the Polish special forces will stay in Kabul at least until September 16. This is despite the fact that earlier NATO called September 11 "the last day of stay of military personnel of the alliance's combat units in Afghanistan."
