Lespedeza thunbergii -‘Gibraltar’- common name Bush Cover, is hardy to zone 4. It’s a deciduous shrub, but you treat it like a perennial and cut it back to the ground each spring. Give it plenty of space because it reaches a height of 4-5 feet and spreads 4- 10’ feet. Mine blooms in September with rosy pea- like blooms that have a graceful fountain- like- habit.
It is a terrific plant with intense deep saturated pink blooms that can hold its own against the brilliant autumn color of maples, asters, and goldenrod. The texture is stunning anyway, but enhanced when juxtaposed against the dark blue- green foliage of Spiraea Nipponica ‘Snowmound.’(see photo.)
There is also a white flowering variety called ‘White fountain’- which I had, but killed when I moved it to an area that turned out to have poor drainage. I must find another one. The white variety tends not to grow as a large as the pink.

Rooting for Ideas 
I found your blog by searching for blush clover, I have it in my yard, but really want to move it. How did you move yours? Did you find it very difficult? I can’t seem to get it to budge, and it’s current location is too small for it (I didn’t realize it would get this big). Thanks!
Hi Lisa- Welcome to ‘Rooting For Ideas.’ Now that you mention it I do recall taking some time to get it out of the ground. The root system was very established and I used a transplant shovel and basically cut it out of the ground. It was very heavy and I managed to replant it. Once you get out of the ground you could divide the plant and make 4 new plants. That way it would be easier to move and replant! Best of luck!
