21k-Mile 1988 Lotus Esprit Turbo Commemorative Edition

This Lotus Esprit Turbo is #21 of approximately 88 Commemorative Edition examples built for the 1988 model year. The car was first delivered to Robinson Autohaus of East Point, Georgia, and was acquired by the seller in 2022. It is finished in Pearlescent White over a tri-tone interior and powered by a turbocharged 2.2-liter inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. Additional equipment includes a rear wing, a removable glass roof panel, body-color 15″ Lotus Design wheels, air conditioning, and an aftermarket Pioneer CD stereo. This Esprit shows 21k miles and is offered in Illinois with manufacturer’s literature, an indoor car cover, a window sticker, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name.

All Commemorative Edition Esprit Turbos were finished in Pearlescent White and were produced to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Colin Chapman’s initial registry of the Lotus name. Exterior details include a tunnel-back design with a rear wing, as well as a power antenna, pop-up headlamps, integrated front fog lights, heated side mirrors, ducted side skirts, and a removable glass roof panel with a wind deflector. The headlights were rebuilt in December 2022.

White-finished 15″ Lotus Design wheels are mounted with Yokohama AVS Aplus 4v tires measuring 205/60 up front and 235/60 out back. Four-wheel independent suspension and rack-and-pinion steering were standard equipment, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with ventilated front rotors. The front and rear brake pads were replaced in December 2022.

The cockpit features seats upholstered in tri-tone Connolly leather with gray pigskin inserts that extend to the door panels and is joined by blue carpets. The dashboard is accented by burl wood veneer and adorned with a commemorative plaque. Amenities include air conditioning, electric windows and side mirrors, and an aftermarket Pioneer CD stereo linked to Alpine speakers. A removed Sony stereo is included in the sale, and the carpets lining the trunk have reportedly been replaced.

The steering wheel is wrapped in blue Connolly leather with a Lotus-embossed gray pigskin center and frames a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for boost, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 21k miles, approximately 40 of which were added under current ownership.

The mid-mounted turbocharged 2.2-liter Type 910 inline-four was factory rated at 215 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque. Work completed by Glenview Luxury Imports of Glenview, Illinois, in December 2022 included performing a fluids service, rebuilding the water pump, and replacing the following components:

Timing belt
Starter
Fuel lines, pump, filters, and accumulator
Vacuum tubes

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle. Corrosion is visible on the underbody components.

The window sticker indicates that this vehicle is #21 of 88 Commemorative Editions produced and lists initial delivery to Robinson Autohaus in East Point, Georgia, along with factory colors, equipment, and a total suggested retail price of $70,645. Manufacturer’s literature and an indoor car cover will also accompany the car.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in Illinois with gaps in entries from 2002 to 2012 and 2012 to 2022.
