VG30E-Powered 1970 Datsun 510 5-Speed

This 1970 Datsun 510 two-door sedan has been refinished in turquoise over black, and a fuel-injected 3.0-liter VG30E V6 and five-speed manual transmission from a later Nissan have been installed. Other features include aftermarket 15″ wheels, front disc brakes, a lowered suspension, a front air dam, a roll bar, and seats from a Honda Prelude. The seller acquired the car in 2020 from a previous owner of more than three decades, and approximately 3k miles have since been added. Service in March 2022 included flushing the coolant and replacing the thermostat. This modified 510 is now offered with a California title in the seller’s name.

The color has been changed from red to turquoise, and a matching air dam has been installed. The seller notes that the inner headlights are inoperable. Many photos in the gallery below were taken in late 2021.

Black 15″ Rota Grid wheels were installed and mounted with 195/50 Yokohama Advan Fleva tires in October 2020. Disc brakes are utilized up front, and the ride height has been lowered with modified suspension. The seller also states that chassis bracing has been installed. The tires were rotated in March 2022.

The interior features bolstered front bucket seats and a rear bench from a Honda Prelude, which are trimmed in black cloth with textured inserts. A roll bar and a racing harness for the driver have also been installed. The gray carpeting is protected by black floor mats, under which sound-deadening material is said to have been added. A Sony stereo is positioned in the center of the dashboard.

A Grant GT steering wheel sits ahead of instrumentation that includes a 120-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and gauges to monitor fuel level and coolant temperature. An auxiliary gauge pod with VDO gauges has been added to the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 38k miles, approximately 3k of which have been added by the seller. True mileage is unknown.

The fuel-injected 3.0-liter VG30E V6 was sourced from a later Nissan along with a five-speed manual transmission, and they were installed under previous ownership. Service in March 2022 is said to have included flushing the coolant, replacing the thermostat, and changing the oil.
