Poland Could Acquire Upgraded Rosomak-L Armored Personnel Carriers.

According to Defense24, on July 17, 2023, in a move to bolster its military capabilities, Poland is set to acquire a fleet of upgraded Rosomak-L armored personnel carriers (APCs). A contract is expected to be signed by the Polish government before the end of 2023, ensuring the delivery of 250 to 400 units of the improved Rosomak APCs to the country's armed forces.

Although this information has not been officially confirmed yet, Defense24's sources suggest that the Polish Armed Forces are interested in obtaining the extended version (L - long) of the Rosomak APCs. The new L variant features a lengthened body by 60 cm compared to the standard Rosomak model, which measures 7.8 meters in length, 2.8 meters in width, and 2.3 meters in height.

The KTO Rosomak is a wheeled armored vehicle, designed to be an all-terrain troop transport capable of adapting to various missions. It was developed jointly by Finland and Poland and is currently in service in the Polish army. The vehicle can accommodate a crew of three, including the commander, driver, gunner, and eight passengers.

Regarding armament, the Rosomak is equipped with a 30x173 mm ATK Mk44 Bushmaster II cannon, providing considerable firepower. Additionally, it has the option to mount either a 12.7 mm WKM-B machine gun or a 7.62x51mm NATO UKM-2000C coaxial general-purpose machine gun for close support.

The primary advantage of the extended version lies in its improved buoyancy, allowing for the installation of more formidable armaments. Notably, the majority of the upgraded APCs are expected to be equipped with the ZSSW-30 combat module, developed in cooperation between Huta Stalowa Wola and WB Electronics companies.

The new APCs, under development by Rosomak SA, will be powered by a 610-horsepower Scania DC13 engine. The increased size of the vehicles has also led to significantly larger fuel tanks, resulting in a 30 to 40% increase in fuel capacity. This advancement considerably extends the operational range of the APCs despite the added weight.

Among other improvements are the installation of new water-jet propulsion propellers, an upgraded hatch for the driver-mechanic, improved rearview mirrors, and a water deflector shield.

While details regarding other features to be implemented during production remain confidential, it is evident that Poland is making considerable efforts to modernize its armored fleet and provide its armed forces with cutting-edge technology and capabilities.
