Olek

Olek is a sculptor that consists of sculptures, installations like crocheted bicycles, inflatables, and other fiber art. You can find her work at http://www.oleknyc.com and she is also on instagram @oleknyc. I find her work very interesting and I love the bright colors she uses.Olek was born April 5,1978 her birth name is Agata Oleksiak and she was born in Poland.

Olek work is inspired by the movies and shows she watches while she crochets. She crochets everything that comes her way like text messages, medical reports ,and sometimes even objects that she finds . She also uses famous provocative quotes from Marilyn Monroe and Madonna. Her work changes as she goes from place to place. Olek aso says “There is the unraveling, the ephemeral part of my work that never lets me forget about the limited life of the art object and art concept.” You can normally find Olek’s work in New York where she has crocheted over cars, bikes, Bernard Rosenthal’s Astor Place Cube, and a bull statue.

Most of her work is a camouflage patterned but in brilliant colors. She also wears some of her creations.

if you look closely at Olek’s shirt you will notice that she is wearing a crocheted shirt. I do not know if she made it or not but I thought it was coo she was since she does sometimes wears her own creations.

Olek also does sculptures with inflatables which is pretty cool.

I found Olek while scrolling online and clicked a few links and her sculptors are pretty cool. They are unique and a nice change of perspectiveShe studied in culture of science and minored in work ethic .

She crochets a main pattern and then covers a object in that pattern in it.

To crochet you tie knot by knot which is not really a short process, especially doing as much as she is doing it would hours upon hours to that much.

Once she has enough she places it on the object and crochets it together which you can see on the bull in the picture above.

This is another one of Olek’s inflatable sculptures.

Most of her art work is recent and it is nice to have a artist like this to be around still, you can watch them change and create more wonderful art that you enjoy. This is also another inflatable of hers. I really enjoy her work, i like how detailed it is and how most of the objects she uses are simple that no one would really think about using especially not in a way like this. It is just a nice change of view, also I like how she uses nature and public areas to create these works.

Olek’s website has some really awesome works that everyone should check out. I honestly wish there was a whole lot more then there is on her. She is extremely cool, talented and patient and should be more well known.
