技術分野
本発明はゴルフボール、 特にソリッ ドゴルフボールの特徴である飛距離 や耐久性を損なわずに、 打撃時のフィーリングとアプローチでのコント口 一ル性を向上させたゴルフボールに関する。
背景技術
先行技術においては、 主として 2種類のゴルフボールがある。 一方は、 ツーピースボール等のソリッ ドゴルフボールであり、 一体成形されたゴム 製部材から成るコアおよび該コア上に被覆したアイオノマー樹脂等の熱可 塑性樹脂カバーから構成される。 また、 他方は糸巻きゴルフボールであり、 固体または液体の芯部を、 ゴム糸の巻線で巻き付け、 次いで l〜2 min厚の アイオノマー樹脂ゃバラタ等によるカバーで被覆したものである。 ソリッ ドゴルフボールは、 糸巻きゴルフボールと比較すると、 耐久性、 および打 繫時のボール速度が大きいことから飛距離が大きく、 飛行特性に優れる。 その反面、 ソリッ ドゴルフボールは、 打撃時のフィーリングが硬いこと、 および打撃時のボール速度が大きく、 ゴルフクラブの打擊面との接触面積 が小さいことにより、 スピンがかかりにく く、 アプローチのコントロール 性に欠けるという問題点があった。
この問題点を解決するために、 カバーに軟らかい材質のものを用いて、 ボールの外側部分に柔軟性を持たせるという提案がなされている。 しかし, ボールの反撥弾性が従来のカバーに比べ劣るため、 ツーピースボール本来 の特徴である飛距離が低下してしまう。
このような問題点を解決するために、 カバー層を 2層構造にし、 それぞ れの層に異なるカバ一材料を用いる 2層カバーゴルフボールが提案されて いる。 例えば、 特開平 4-244Π4号公報では、 内側カバ一層にアミ ドのブロッ ク共重合体を含む熱可塑性材料を用い、 外側カバー層には熱可塑性樹脂を 用いている。 しかしながら、 このゴルフボールではブロック共重合体のよ うに低剛性のものを内側カバー層に用いているため反撥低下が起こり飛距 離増大の点で十分ではない。 また、 特開平 6-343718号公報では 2層カバー 構造のゴルフボールにおいて内側カバー層に硬い高酸アイオノマー樹脂か ら成るカバーを用いて飛距離増大を図ろうとしている。 硬い (高剛性)高酸 アイオノマー樹脂を内側カバー層に用いても、 外側カバー層を軟らかくし ているためボール速度を增加するには限界があり、 更に内側カバ一層を硬 くしてボーノレ速度を増加していく必要があった。

発明の開示
本発明者は上記目的を達成すベく鋭意検討を行つた結果、 コァに基材ゴ 厶 100重量部に対して、 0. 05〜5重量部の有機スルフィ ド化合物を含有す るゴム組成物を用いることにより、 コアの反撥弾性が増加し、 それによつ てボールの反撥弾性が增加することを知見した。
以下、 本発明について更に詳述すると、 本発明のゴルフボールは、 コア (1)上に 2層構造のカバー層(2および 3 )を形成する。 コアは、 基材ゴム、 架橋剤、 共架橘剤、 有機スルフィ ド化合物等を配合したゴム組成物を加熱、 加圧、 成形することにより得られる。
基材ゴムとしては、 従来からソリッ ドゴルフボールに用いられている天 然ゴムおよび/または合成ゴムが用いられ、 特にシス構造を 40%以上有す るシス -1, 4-ポリブタジエンが好ましく、 所望により天然ゴム、 ポリイソ プレンゴム、 スチレン-ブタジエンゴム、 E P D M等を配合してもよい。 架橋剤の例としては、 有機過酸化物、 例えばジクミルパーォキサイ ドま たは t-ブチルパーォキサイ ドが挙げられ、 ジクミルパーォキサイ ドが好適 である。 配合量は、 基材ゴム 100重量部に対して、 0. 3〜5. 0重量部、 好ま しくは 0. 5〜3. 0重量部である。
共架橋剤には、 従来のソリッ ドゴルフボールに用いられてきたものを使 用し得る。 不飽和脂肪酸の金属塩、 特にアクリル酸またはメタクリル酸等 のような炭素数 3〜8の、一価または二価の金属塩が挙げられるが、 反撥 性の高いァクリル酸亜鉛が好適である。 配合量は基材ゴム 100重量部に対 して、 10〜40重量部が好ましい。 40重量部より多いと硬くなり過ぎ、 フィ ーリングが悪くなり、 10重量部より少ないと反撥が悪くなる。
本発明のソリッ ドゴルフボールの製造に用いられるゴム組成物には、 上 記のものに加えて有機スルフィ ド化合物を配合する。 有機スルフィ ド化合 物としては、 硫黄数 2〜4のジフエ二ルポリスルフィ ド、 ジベンジルポリ スルフィ ド、 ジベンゾィルポリスルフィ ド、 ジベンゾチアゾィルポリスル フィ ド、 ジチォベンゾィルポリスルフィ ド等のポリスルフィ ド類や、 式:

(式中、 nは 1〜4の整数であり、 Rおよび R'は CH3、 C2H5、 C4He、 C6H5またはエチレンォキシであ る。 ) に示されるようなテトラアルキルチウラムスルフィ ドが例示される。 これらは、 1種単独でも、 2種以上組合せて用いてもよい。 配合量は、 基 材ゴム 100重量部に対して、 0.05〜5重量部、 特に好ましくは 0.1〜2重量 部である。 0.05重量部より少ないと有機スルフィ ドの効果が発揮できず、 5重量部より多く配合しても効果の向上はない。
更に、 そのゴム組成物には、 酸化亜鉛、 硫酸バリウム、 炭酸カルシウム 等の不活性充填材、 老化防止剤、 その他ソリッ ドゴルフボールのコアの製 造に通常使用し得る成分を適宜配合してもよい。
上記組成物を通常ソリツ ドコアに用いられる方法、 条件を用いて、 加熱 成形して得られたコアは通常、 直径 32〜37.5mniであることが望ましい。 ま た、 所望のフィーリングを得るために、 10kg〜: L30kgの荷重を負荷したと きの変形量は 3.5〜6.0ιππが好ましく、 3.5mmより小さいと硬くなり過ぎ、 6. 0Π1Π3より大きいと軟らかくなり過ぎる。
次いで、 上記コア(1)には内側カバー(2)および外側カバー(3)を被覆す る。 内側カバーの材料としては、 アイオノマー、 ポリエステル、 ナイロン 等を単独または 2種以上混合して使用し得るが、 フィーリングおよび飛行 特性の点から、 その曲げ剛性率は 3,000〜7,000kgi/cm2であり、 その厚さ は 1.0〜3. Omniであることが望ましい。
外側カバ一材としては、 従来のツーピースゴルフボールのカバーに通常 用いられるもの、 例えばアイオノマー樹脂を単独あるいは混合して使用し 得るが、 フィーリングおよび飛行特性の点から、 その曲げ剛性率は 1.000 〜2,800kgi/cni2であり、 その厚さは 1.0〜3. Ommであることが望ましい。 力 バー厚みの合計は、 2.0〜5.0πιπιであることが好ましい。
また、 本発明のカバー層 (内側カバー層(2)および外側カバー層(3)) に は、 例えば酸化チタン等の着色剤や、 その他の添加剤、 例えば紫外線吸収 剤、 光安定剤並びに蛍光材料または蛍光増白剤等を、 ゴルフボールカバー による所望の特性が損なわれない範囲で、 含有していてもよい。
本発明のカバー層は、 ゴルフボールのカバーの形成に使用されている一 股に公知の方法、 例えば射出成型、 プレス成型等により形成される。 まず、 内側カバー(2)を、 コア(1)に被覆した後、 外側カバー(3)を被覆すること により製造する。 外側カバー(3)を被覆する際に通常、 ディ ンブルと呼ば れるくぼみを多数表面上に形成する。 外側および内側カバー層の厚みはと もに、 1. 0〜2. 3mmの範囲が好ましい。 本発明のゴルフボールは美観を高め、 商品価値を上げるために、 通常ペイントで被覆され、 市場に投入される。 本発明では、 有機スルフィ ド化合物を配合することにより、 軟らかく、 反撥の良好なコアが得られ、 フィーリングがソフ 卜で、 飛行特性の優れた ゴルフボールを提供する。

発明の効果
本発明のソリッ ドゴルフボールは、 前述の配合で成形したコアを用いる ことによって、 コアの硬度を低下させても反撥の低下を抑制でき、 カバー を多層とすることによって耐久性、 打撃時のフィーリング、 アプローチ時 のコントロール性を向上させたものである。

1. コア(1)と該コア上に形成されたカバーから成り、 該カバーが内 側カバー層(2)と外側カバー層(3)の 2層カバー構造を有するゴルフボール において、 該コア(1)が基材ゴム 100重量部に対して 0.05〜5重量部の有機 スルフィ ド化合物を含有するゴム組成物を用いたソリッドゴルフボール。
2. 該コアの 10〜130kgの荷重下での変形量が、 3.5〜6.0mmである請 求項 1記載のゴルフボール。
3. 該内側カバー層(2)の曲げ剛性率が、 3,000〜7,000kgf/oi2の範囲 である請求項 1記載のゴルフボール。
4. 該外側カバー層(3)の曲げ剛性率が、 l,000〜2,800kgf/oi20範囲 である請求項 1記載のゴルフボール。
